The Mysterious Character
“What’s My Name”
Level: Middle School
Subject: History
Objective: Students will learn to identify famous submariners and inventors in submarine history.
Materials: Biographies in Educator’s Packet of the Russian Submarine Museum Curriculum Guide
Task: Students will determine the name of a “mysterious character “ questions addressed to a student posing as a famous submariner or inventor.
Activity: The game may be played in small groups or as a class. A student will secretly choose a known person who was involved in the development of submarines. The rest of the group may then ask questions about that person, but the questions can be answered only with “yes” or “no.
Example: Mystery character is Rear Admiral McCann
Questions: Did the person design a submarine? No
Was he a naval officer? Yes
Was he an American? Yes
Did the person fight in a war? Yes
The game may be set up with a limit on the number of questions asked. The person who correctly guesses the mystery person can choose the next mystery person, or points can be awarded if playing in teams.
